The Faculty of Technology was formerly the Faculty of Applied Science (established in 1995). From 1995 to 2017, the faculty has been renamed several times due to development and management needs. The Faculty of Technology currently offers undergraduate programs: Environmental Engineering Technology, Biotechnology, Green Building, Medical Biotechnology, Business Environmental Governance, Cosmetic Technology; 3 Master’s programs (Environmental Engineering, Environmental and Resource Management, and Biotechnology); and a PhD program in Environmental Science.
Scientific research
Along with training activities, Faculty of Technology always focuses on scientific research activities and international cooperation. In the past 20 years, the faculty of the Faculty has carried out 79 domestic research projects that have been accepted and applied and 37 research projects on par with countries in Asia and Europe. All scientific research topics originate from the actual needs of Vietnam and the results of these studies not only contribute scientifically but also be applied to solve real problems of Vietnam. Domestic cooperation
The Faculty implements training cooperation with enterprises/institutions using human resources through the signing and implementation of training cooperation contracts and agreements, specifically: ETM Center, Consulting Co., Ltd. Van Lang Environment, City Environmental Protection Fund. Ho Chi Minh City, Urban Drainage Company - Binh Hung Wastewater Treatment Plant, Nam Binh Duong Waste Treatment Enterprise, Viet Australia Environment Joint Stock Company, Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone, consulting centers , waste treatment companies, industrial parks, etc., create favorable conditions for students to visit to learn practical experience, graduate internship as well as introduce jobs to students.
International cooperation
Over the past years, the Faculty of Technology has implemented many international cooperation projects in training, training and scientific research with Kytakyosu University of Japan, the Japanese Institute of Environment, Hitachi Zosen Company and KK Satifactory. International Japan, Royal Melbourne Environmental Institute Australia,... Some typical projects are listed below:
- The project “Research and Education for Industry and Environment – Research and Education for Industry and Environment – REFINE”, from 1997 – 2004 (2 phases) funded by the Dutch government, with the participation of Wageningen University, Institute of Housing and Urban Development (IHS), CENTEMA Center and Van Lang University.
- Project “Asian Regional Research Program on Environmental Technology – ARRPET”, from 1998 to 2007 (2 phases), by SIDA with the participation of countries Thailand, China, Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Philippines, Vietnam have Hanoi University of Science and Van Lang University.
- Solid waste management capacity building project by 3 universities including Bauhaus University, Weimar, Germany; Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and Van Lang University, Vietnam jointly implement (DAAD project). From 2004-2005.
- Project “Reuse of Biowaste for Southeast Asian Cities - Biowaste Reuse in South-East Asian Cities - BWRSEA), 2005 - 2006, funded by the EU with the participation of 3 Southeast Asian countries Asia (Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines) and 3 European institutions (Wageningen University - Netherlands, Bauhaus University - Germany, WASTE organization - Netherlands).
Integrated Support for a Sustainable Urban Environment - ISSUE II project, 2007-2010, funded by the European organization and organized by WASTE, with the participation of 19 organizations offices in 16 countries around the world.
- Project "Integrated Sustainable Solid Waste Management In Asia - ISSOWAMA", 2009 - 2011, sponsored by the European organization and organized by WASTE, with the participation of the Netherlands, Germany and other countries like India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines.
- Characteristic of solid waste at Binh Dien Holesale maket and anaerobic digestion of organic waste of Binh Dien Holesale Market project, sponsored by Hitachi Zosen (Japan) in 2014-2015.
- Project Anaerobic digestion for organnic waste from the program of solid waste separation at sources at District 1 and Binh Thanh District, sponsored by Hitachi Zosen (Japan) in 2016 (Coordinating with ETM Center).
- Solid waste management project towards zero waste city. Cooperation with Thamarsat University, Thailand and Environment Institute, Thailand. Funding is funded by APA. Implementation period: 2015-2017.
- ENTIRE project "Sustainable industrial development in the deltas of Vietnam through reuse, recycling, and diversification of industrial water resources - ENabling susTainable Industrial development in Vietnamese delta's: REducing, recycling, and multi -sourcing industrial water", under the Urbanising Deltas of the World Program 2015 – 2nd Call for proposals, by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).
In addition to the above projects, the Faculty also cooperated and carried out academic exchanges with the University of California Berkeley (USA) - in 1998; Bauhaus University Weirma – (Germany) from 1999 to present; Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) 1999-2001; Royal Melborn Institute of Technology - RMIT (Australia) from 1997 to present, Asian American Environmental Association (US AEP) 1999-2001, New Zealand University of Technology, Anza College (USA), mainly exchange of teaching staff - students and organize seminars and conferences.
